Aloha Nui, which I’ve been told means Hello there gorgeous, is pretty much the best way to sum up Laki Kane.
Tucked in between Angel Station and Highbury & Islington Station on Upper Street is a gorgeous new Tiki bar. It is literally a taste of Hawaii with beautiful décor and tropical flowers, I can’t stress enough just how beautiful the inside looks.
Equally as stunning are the drinks, not just how they look, but also how they taste too. They are very much so in keeping with what you would expect from a high-end cocktail bar. There are some absolute killers in there that will knock your socks right off, please see pin-up zombie, which is lethal and served in a fatal fashion too!
Like Night Jar, the drinks almost come with a story of their own. The way they are presented, including the drinks receptacle (fancy word right!) makes taking pictures of them, equally as fun as getting to drink them. A lot of thought has been spent on the cocktail menu and it shows in the execution.
One of the best things about Laki Kane is that if you want an incredibly memorable experience with your date, why not make rum together? There is a separate room just for making rum from scratch. That’s right, rum from scratch!
You know as the old saying goes, the couple that makes rum together, gets drunk together. I think that sounds right, or maybe not, I don’t know, I’ve had a lot of rum.
You don’t need to book the rum making experience just to cosy up with your date. There’s plenty of little nooks and crannies for a little date. One of the best is a half bird cage, half sofa seating area which is set in a corner creating a feeling privacy even if the bar gets busy.
I feel there is just so much more I could keep on writing, I mean, they have a button that you press on your table that means you want someone to come take your order. This is one of those places where you have to experience it to truly get why I’m raving about this place!
If you want a little winter sun, why not hit a tropical paradise in London?
Overall – 5/5 The bar offers a unique experience from the rum making aspect and gives off a truly tropical feel in the main bar room. It is one of those places where you can for after work drinks or take a date and the bar would be able to cater to both of those scenarios.
Cost – So it’s not the cheapest, but the drinks are served with flair and it adds to the overall experience of the bar. The rum making experience is £120 plus booking fees. It can be just for you and your date or can accommodate up to 20 people…take from that what you want.
Dress Code – Smart casual, or wear a Hawaiian shirt which I would personally always recommend.
