Bar of the month – September – Found!

Found you!

It’s very hard, if not near impossible, to find a quiet place to drink in the central London with a date. Well, you no longer need to find it, because it’s been Found!

Poor puns aside, Found Bar is pretty much the perfect first date spot.

The bar itself is off Great Eastern Street on 5 Ravey Street and has been known to be very easily missed, but look out for a lamp hanging outside that says “Found” which seems entirely out of place. When you see it, just head down the stairs and into, what could easily be, your own private bar.

The bar itself is super small, but that’s kind of what makes it a date place. The first time I went there I had reserved the alcove, which is one of four rooms that the bar offers. The bar is softly lit and has candles gently flickering, creating a rather romantic atmosphere. The music in the background is soft and just loud enough to cover any awkward silences, but not enough to take away from you getting to know your date.

The alcove offers table service which meant that I pretty much felt like we had the cocktail mixologist all to ourselves. He was genuinely interested in how our night was going and talked us through the whole drinks menu. I ended up ordering off menu, which he was happy to make for us.

The menu is rum heavy and I wasn’t much of a rum drinker. The reason I say wasn’t, is because I didn’t realise just how rum can be used in cocktails and what good rum tastes like! Diplomatico, is more like super-a-matico…ba-dum-tss. Our mixologist worked up a killer drink that had 12 year old rum, bitters and tonic. Just those three ingredients changed my mind on rum and I totally understand why pirates loved it.

As the website says, this is a no gimmick bar, it’s all about giving you space to actually get to know your date!

Overall – 4/5 This is a great spot to take your date either at the start of your night or to wind down for after dinner drinks.

Cost – Cocktails are around £9.50 which is pretty decent for this part of London!

Dress Code – Smart casual, think date wear rather than gym gear.
