Situated right by the Thames, is the traditionally British, Putney Pies. Even before you enter the restaurant, the buttery waft of pastry entices you in. Once inside this cosy delight, you are greeted by the welcoming staff, who will make you feel right at home. This independent eatery is popular with locals and visitors of the Capital, where the ambience is laidback and friendly.
Every pie is made from scratch, using locally sourced ingredients. Imagine your favourite stew covered in pastry, mmmmm! As well as their famous chicken and leek pie, they have some more inventive flavours, such as mini Beef Wellington. Dishes are teamed with chips or mash – the perfect way to commit ‘carbicide’ in the cold winter months. You definitely need to visit Putney Pies on an empty stomach as the delicious side dishes will scream out for you to order them too. An MFC favourite being the pulled pork Mac & Cheese – heaven in a pot! If you still have room after your oh-so-British feast, then ask your server for their dessert selection, which includes a succulent salted caramel brownie and delicious banoffee pie.
PPs also boasts a delectable selection of British Beers on the menu and ales in addition to a succinct wine list plus an excellent cocktail menu too! There is something for everyone at Putney Pies, with gluten-free, vegetarian and vegan options available.
There is more to Putney Pies than meets the eye and we think it is the perfect date venue in Putney. Not only does it have an array of delicious, warming traditional British pies, it is also home to The Vault: a cavernous, arched bar located in the basement, under Putney Bridge, which leads to an outdoor area. There are long tables situated downstairs, which make it ideal for big groups or sharing with others. The Vault transforms into a vibrant hub of entertainment with DJs playing every Friday and Saturday from 10pm.
We’d recommend Putney Pies for a second or third date, when it’s safe to reveal your true colours (and eating habits)…
